Burrawang.
Upmarket and historic, Burrawang is a little community with a fabulous vignette. Set among rolling green hills that encourage you to breathe in the beautiful surroundings, this peaceful hamlet is nestled in the very heart of the Southern Highlands, and within easy reach of Sydney via the Hume Motorway.
Burrawang is a magnet for nature lovers, bushwalkers and picnickers all who come from far and wide to sample this unique slice of country magic. The town’s centrepiece and local watering hole is the Burrawang Village Hotel on Hoddle Street that boasts one of the country’s most spectacular beer gardens where you can relax with a drink and enjoy views across the highlands.
The streets are lined with exquisitely presented Hamptons-style houses on good-sized garden blocks, plus there are some gorgeous acreage retreats on the outskirts of town. There is also an assortment of historic homes and buildings, including the Old Village Store that was built in 1867, the well-restored sandstone 19th-century schoolhouse and the Federation-era Burrawang School of Arts building.
Getting here is easy as you can take the M5 from Sydney, the Illawarra Highway from Wollongong or jump on the Southern Highlands line train to nearby Moss Vale and get a ride from there. It is not too far from major shopping amenities at Bowral and just a few minutes to the supermarket, cafés and restaurants at nearby Robertson.
