Yallingup.
It’s easy to understand why Yallingup means ‘place of love’ in the Nyoongar language with its curvaceous coastline and towering forests. Bestowed with staggering natural beauty, it’s a mecca for beach babes and surfers riding the swells at the renowned Three Bears, Yallingup, Smith’s Beach and Injidup breaks.
Situated 256 kilometres south of Perth, the region is famed for its dramatic views, ancient caves and walking trails, especially the Cape to Cape trek traversing for 135km from Cape Naturaliste to Cape Leeuwin past craggy coastal outcrops and deep into magical forests.
Part of the Margaret River Region, Yallingup teems with wineries specialising in chardonnay, semillon, cabernet, merlot and languid vineyard lunches. Spanning 74 kilometres of unspoilt landscape, Yallingup’s population of 1,000+ usually head to Busselton, Dunsborough or the Margaret River township for most of their amenities and schools; however, the petite town at Yallingup Beach has a couple of cafes, convenience stores and low-key beach shacks among the mansions with spectacular coastal views. Indijup Beach and Smiths Beach offer high-end resorts to go with those iconic views, such as Canal Rocks and Indijup Natural Spa.
As you come around the bend along Yallingup Beach Road into Yallingup town, brace yourself for the jaw-dropping view of the coastline stretching to the tip of Cape Naturaliste.
