Serpentine.

Falling under a 905 square kilometre area of the Shire of Serpentine-Jarrahdale, the suburb of Serpentine was established in 1893 for the South Western Railway between Perth and Bunbury. Named after its jarrah forest, Jarrahdale was established in the late 1800s as WA’s first major timber milling operation and today is managed by the state’s National Trust.

Serpentine and Jarrahdale are located approximately 55 kilometres south-southwest of Perth and have a combined population of around 4,000 – and almost as many registered horses. These gorgeous rural areas are famed for their wooded campsites, picturesque picnic spots and walking, mountain biking and bridle trails, including the Mundimup Timber Trail (3km), Baldwins Bluff Trail (6km), Kitty’s Gorge (7km) and the 1872 Heritage Railway Trail (10km). Serpentine Falls is an Instagram favourite in the Serpentine National Park along the Serpentine Falls Walk Trail (1km)

Some visitors to the region forgo their walking shoes, however, and opt for an indulgent meal at Millbrook Winery, voted the best restaurant of the year by Gourmet Traveller 2022.
