Emu Plains.

Emu Plains gets its name from the early explorers who discovered a great number of these large birds roaming the plains on the eastern side of the Nepean River. A farming settlement was established here in 1814, and it became one of the first areas in the Sydney region to supply crops and livestock to the colony.

Today, Emu Plains is a vibrant community at the foot of the Blue Mountains with convenient access to both natural beauty and urban amenities. Anchored by the vast array of retail, dining and services at Lennox Village Shopping Centre, the town also features a swimming centre, tennis courts and Dukes Oval along the Great Western Highway. And there’s a few charming cafés like The Laughin’ Boy, offering a delightful spot to snack beside the river.

History enthusiasts will appreciate Emu Plains' rich heritage, highlighted by landmarks such as Lennox Bridge, the oldest surviving stone arch bridge in Australia. You can also stop in for a drink on Sundays at the Arms of Australia Inn c.1840, one of the oldest pubs in the country.

The suburb’s blend of historical charm and modern living is reflected in its diverse housing options, ranging from older character homes to up-to-date family residences with generous backyards. The region is also known for its lush green spaces and recreational facilities, making it perfect for families and nature enthusiasts.

Officially part of the City of Penrith, Emu Plains stands out as an attractive option for those seeking a balanced lifestyle, about 50km from Sydney's CBD via the M4 Western Motorway.
