Como.
Como has earned a terrific reputation as a great place to live. It’s not too far from the city, about 7km south of the CBD, yet quiet and peaceful with plenty of shopping and dining options, a choice of parks, and a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.
The Canning Highway divides the suburb into two distinct zones, riverside and non-riverside, and both have their advantages. Riverside Como adjoins South Perth and has the Karalee Shopping Centre on Preston Street and a vibrant café scene. There is also Como Beach which is a popular recreation and swimming area with a sandy beach along the banks of the Swan River.
The Eastside or non-riverside part of Como offers some larger home sites, mixed in with apartment blocks and townhouses. There is a great café strip here as well as neighbourhood parklands and some of Perth’s finest schools, including Penrhos College. Many people move into Como due to top-notch educational facilities and convenience to Curtin University.
Bus services connect to downtown Perth in one direction, and Fremantle in the other, or you could take the ferry from South Perth. There is also the underground train station at Canning Bridge which runs all the way to Mandurah, or if you prefer pedal power, Como has access to over 70 cycle routes.
